Case Study

"MOHINI : a pioneer of AZOLA in Gudha village"

My name is Mohini resident of Gudha village having 5 children with my husband in my family. Livestock rearing is the main source of our livelihood especially in 8 months of yrs. when our one and only cropping season is over. I own 30 goats and 3 buffalos and get income by selling their milk. It was two yrs.
back when we use to loose 5 to 10 animals in a year due to common diseases like Khurpaka & Muhpaka. It has been a big loss for us for buying lost animals again through debt. But now I am very thankful to Disha Sanstha of Ajmer who motivated us to avail livestock insurance and provide trainings and demonstration to learn improved practices of disease control and feeding practices. As a result I didn't loss only 1 bufelow and 2 goats in last two yrs. and received the compensation and bought another without any debt. I have also grown AZOLA grass and increased the milk production from our livestocks.

"Ek Chote se kamre me mili Jankari apaar,VIC hi door karega hamare gaon ka Andhkaar."

Above lines has become a saying in our village says Heera Singh, coordinator of Farmer's Club and a shop keeping of Gudha village. "Being lived in a remote village and no access of information our agriculture has become non-profitable occupation for us two yrs. back." states Heera. Farmers used to put excessive chemicals,
urea and synthetic fertilizers in their field but still didn't get profit because of high cost inputs. "But today me and other farmers of Gudha village have learned and practice for efficient use of chemicals and fertilizers by replacing organic manures and IPM techniques which we got through VIC. This way we have reduced the input cost in farming and start getting benefit from agriculture again."
Similarly, we got to know about various schemes of govt. and 143 HH are benefited last year.
